Possible causes of Skin Diseases

Skin diseases like Eczema, Psoriasis, Dermatitis, Hives etc can arise from a variety of causes, which can generally be grouped into several categories:

1. Infections:

  • Bacterial Infections: Examples include cellulitis, impetigo, and folliculitis.

  • Viral Infections: Conditions like herpes simplex, warts (caused by human papillomavirus), and chickenpox.

  • Fungal Infections: Ringworm, athlete’s foot, and yeast infections (like candidiasis).

  • Parasitic Infections: Scabies (caused by mites) and lice infestations.

2. Allergic Reactions:

  • Contact Dermatitis: Triggered by allergens like nickel, cosmetics, or poison ivy.

  • Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis): Often linked to environmental allergens and genetic factors.

  • Hives (Urticaria): Caused by allergic reactions to foods, medications, or other triggers.

3. Autoimmune Disorders:

  • Psoriasis: The immune system causes the skin to produce cells rapidly, leading to scaling and inflammation.

  • Lupus: An autoimmune disease that can cause a variety of skin rashes, including the characteristic butterfly rash on the face.

  • Vitiligo: Where the immune system attacks the pigment cells in the skin, leading to loss of color in patches.

4. Genetic Factors:

  • Hereditary Skin Conditions: Conditions like ichthyosis, where the skin doesn't shed its dead skin cells properly.

  • Albinism: A genetic disorder where the skin lacks melanin, leading to very light skin and increased sensitivity to the sun.

5. Environmental Factors:

  • Sun Exposure: Can lead to sunburns, and over time, increase the risk of skin cancer and premature aging.

  • Climate: Extreme cold or heat can cause skin issues like frostbite or heat rash.

  • Pollution: Environmental toxins as as formaldehyde can contribute to skin conditions like acne or dermatitis.

6. Lifestyle Factors:

  • Diet: Nutritional deficiencies, such as lack of vitamins and minerals as well as amino acids can lead to skin problems.

  • Gut Inflammation: Food sensitivity can cause microscopic holes in the intestine causing food molecules to leak out. The immune system recognises these as pathogens and so launches an attack causing an overactive immune system and activating mast cells.

  • Stress: Can trigger or exacerbate conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne because it causes the adrenal to over produce cortisol and after a long period of time, these glands get fatigued and under produce cortisol.

  • Hygiene: Poor hygiene can lead to infections and exacerbate existing skin conditions.

7. Hormonal Changes:

  • Puberty: Often causes acne due to increased oil production.

  • Pregnancy: Can lead to conditions like melasma (dark spots) or stretch marks.

  • Menopause: Changes in hormone levels can cause dryness and thinning of the skin.

8. Medications:

  • Side Effects: Certain drugs can cause rashes, hives, or other skin reactions as side effects. It is now known that usage of topical steroids even for a short period of time for skin problems can be a cause of a more serious skin disorder known as Topical Steriod Withdrawal Syndrome.

  • Photosensitivity: Some medications increase sensitivity to sunlight, leading to easier sunburns or rashes.

9. Cancer:

  • Skin Cancer: Includes melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma, which are primarily caused by UV radiation from the sun or tanning beds.

10. Leaky Skin :

  • Our skin has a slightly acidic pH of between 4.7 to 5.75. A pH of 7( pure water ) is neutral. Tap water however has a pH of above 7 to 9 which makes it alkaline. PH of Singapore's tap water is at 8. High alkalinity straps the skin from it's protective barrier and may permit pathogenic activity to affect the skin.

Each skin disease can have one or more of these causes, and often, a combination of factors contributes to the development of a condition. Therefore it is important to know what is the actual or combination root causes of any skin problems inorder to tailor the treatment plans. Bioresonance assessment scans can ascertain possible root causes of Skin Diseases making it one of the most effective way to treat skin issues.
