All About Bioresilience
Bioresilience, a new or unheard word to many, simply means the ability to respond to stress in one’s body. It is a no brainer that our body’s Bioresilience declines as we age. Consider how we could get away with very few hours of sleep yet go through the following day quite normally and how quickly we bounce back from any illness, injury or surgery when we were in our younger years. Seldom do we hear of young people having Metabolic Syndrome diseases like hypertension, heart diseases, stroke, diabetes or high triglyceride levels (unless inherited) but up to 44% of those in the > 50-year old range suffer from 3 out of 5 of these conditions.
It is right to say that if Bioresilience affects aging, what then is involved in Bioresilience so we can look into improving it to enhance or slow down the aging process?
In an article written by Milken Institute, “The Key to Ultimate Health: Bioresilience”, it mentions that typically treating Hypertension with drugs that lower our blood pressure can cause our bodies to become less tolerant to the drugs and therefore dosages have to be increased to achieve the same results. Perhaps we should use good stress that is tolerated by one’s body to build up Bioresilience to lower baseline blood pressure like how exercise creates good stress to our hearts and muscles. Below are some suggestions to increase Bioresilience:
Participate in variations of exercise
Exposure to a range of environments: temperature, sunlight, altitude
Periodical fasting
A diet based on wide variety of wholesome non-processed food
Research is being done to identify and hopefully alter our genetic makeup (epigenetics) to slow down aging and enhance Bioresilience. Therefore, Biofeedback/Bioresonance which work on the most fundamental arena of one's body like the genes and chromosomes will aid in improving Bioresilence.
